Region 9 – Sandra Shingleur

Reading club reports, it’s obvious that we are all trying to do the same thing this summer, and that is, avoid the midsummer heat.  With temperatures hitting triple digits in July, we’re not looking forward to the weather in August.  But clubs are managing to continue training in preparation for the fall hunt test season.  One club, L’Anguille HRC will be celebrating their 10th year as an HRC club at their hunt.

In May of this year, the Crown Championship of the Super Retriever Series was held in Hot Springs, AR.  Several members of HRC from Region 9 ran in the Super Retriever Series this year.  Clint Johnson and “Savannah” were named the SportDOG team of the year in the SRS.  Congratulations Clint!  I know you and Savannah have worked hard to achieve your accomplishments.

In June, I attended the National Meeting in Memphis.  Region 9 was well represented with Glenda and Ed Barnes from East Arkansas, Michael Walker from our newest club in the Region, Ozark HRC, Bill Rath, Bryce Bowie, Greg Davis, Marty Davis and Larry McMurry from Pin Oak, as well as Stan Brown from Hurricane Lake, Justin Etter from L’Anguille and Roger Morton from South Arkansas and Derrick Watson from Four States.

The PR Reps had a good meeting on Friday.   Lots of great ideas were discussed that morning.  In the afternoon PR Reps worked on Region websites.  The goal was to familiarize everyone with designing a website for their Region and post it on the National website.  Well, a little problem occurred when I was publishing Region 9’s.  I lost my Internet connection and when I got it back and continued publishing, I managed to publish the Region 9’s website over the National website.  So if you looked at the HRC website the weekend of the National meeting and several days after, you saw the Region 9 website!  Anyway, Region 9 got a lot of exposure for about six days while Claudene fixed it (what a patient, understanding woman she is!!).  But, it was a great weekend and nice meeting the new PR Reps as well as getting reacquainted with others.

Stay safe and keep cool this summer!

Southwest Missouri Retriever Club – Chris LaRose

Southwest Missouri Retriever Club has just finished the June training month.  With two training days held, most members had the opportunity to do some sort of "formal training."  June 10th our   training day was held just east of the Branson area.  How-to techniques on lining with suction, hazards, and terrain change for blind work and walking marks with several different areas was covered.  Mid morning we moved to water and concentrated on some "water cheating drills."  The June 17th training day was held at the Judd Harris property just north of Springfield.  Our primary focus was introducing the handlers and dogs to marks with multiple dogs at the line.  A concentration, honoring, and confusion drill will help most dogs when hunt test season comes around this fall.

Bud McConnahey introduced the club members to a multi-purpose drill keying on areas such us proper lining, no-birds, poison birds, old falls, and confidence.  I call the drill a "Modified Wagon Wheel Drill" or a fun drill that is designed to teach a young dog and "refresh" the older seasoned dogs.  Bud McConnahey is the owner / trainer for Red Label Retriever Training in Eldorado Springs, Missouri.

Pin Oak HRC – Dickie Edmund

Summer is moving right along.  We have several club members who will be moving up to Finish tests this fall with their first dog and they have been working hard getting ready.  Small groups have been getting together most Saturday mornings and a few Sunday evenings for some good training.  Progress is being made and we are all excited about the Fall Hunt Test Season.

Our upcoming July meeting is our Club Picnic & Shooting event.  It is held at the Remington Gun Club near Lonoke, AR.  Many rounds of skeet and trap will be shot and the bull will get pretty deep.  This event will usually bring out the competitive nature of several of our club members.  This is followed by all of the grilled hot dogs and burgers you can eat.

We are in the process of planning our Fall Hunt which is scheduled for October 7th and 8th.  Put these dates on your calendar.  We would love to have you come out and run our fall test.

L'Anguille River HRC  - Justin Etter

The members of L’Anguille River HRC have been trying to beat the heat.  We all get our training done in the early morning or late evenings.

The club has gained a few new members and would like to welcome them to the HRC family.

We are currently preparing for our 10th Anniversary hunt, which will be held on October 28 & 29, 2006.  We plan on having a big event
scheduled, with plenty of activities.  We encourage all to attend and hope to see new and old faces!

Good Luck to all with the upcoming fall trial season!

Ozark HRC - Michael Walker

Ozark HRC is busy getting ready for its Fall Preliminary hunt test with one flight of Started, two flights of Seasoned and two flights of Finished. Along with a great raffle, the host of the hunt test grounds is a fantastic cook and the Saturday evening meal is served in his hunting lodge. The Ozark HRC wishes everybody a safe and fun Summer!

East Arkansas HRC – Glenda Barnes

East Arkansas HRC is making plans for our fall hunt test to be held the last weekend in August (26th and 27th ) at Bruins, Arkansas.  Judges have been approved and the premium and map are available on the HRC website.  Keep us in mind when you make plans for your fall schedule!

Stay cool this summer and we'll see you at the line!

Four States HRC – Sandra Shingleur

Club members recently voted to host the Spring 2007 Grand.  This has been a major topic of discussion at the last two meetings and will continue to be as plans are being made.  Hope to see you there!
