Regional 3 Meeting … June 23, 2007

Region 3 held its first regional meeting on June 23, 2007 at Green Top Sporting Goods in Glen Allen, VA. There was club representation from Big Elkin Creek, Eastern Carolina, James River, Shenandoah Valley, Tidewater and membership from the Rappahannock River HRC. Our annual meeting is open to all club members. The meeting was lead by Charlie Jurney and Nunzio Litterio and the following was discussed:

1.  Pass It on Mentors program.
The Pass It on Mentor program works with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters to get youth involved with the outdoors that would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so. There was much discussion and interest in this program from all clubs present. Charlie Whitehurst and Ray Casella will gather more information regarding on how clubs can participate; Charlie W. will check on contacts for NC and Ray will check on contacts for VA. Once they have gathered more information clubs will be notified on how to get started.

2.  Recipient of Recognition Award and how plaque should be paid for.
The decision was reached that members present from each club will share the information about the Regional Recognition award with their respective club. At the spring regional meeting a vote will be taken to see if the regional clubs want to continue with the award. Once that decision has been made it will then be decided on how the recipient will be chosen.
Everyone present was in agreement that the following method would be used to pay for the plaque; each club would donate $10 and the Field Rep, Running Rules Rep and Public Relation Rep would each donate $10.
Contributions for this years’ plaque can be made to Gail Banks (402 Howe Dr, Ruther Glen, VA, 22546).

3.  Next club to host Regional Meeting and Handler/Judges Seminar and when.

Gail Banks will contact Down East HRC and ask if they would like to host the regional meeting and Handler/Judges Seminar in the spring. If the Down East club can’t host the meeting in spring ’08 then the ECHRC has volunteered to do so.

4.  Avenues to promote HRC and build club membership.

There is a lot of concern from every club on how to build membership and maintain members after they have joined. The ECHRC has the largest membership base and hold monthly club practice days to keep their members up to date and involved with club activities.  They are also looking at ways to get more youth involved with their club and are currently checking into the DU Green Wing program. Other avenues would be to:

·   Set up booths at local community events and hunting shows giving out literature about HRC. Any club that would like to do this can obtain help by contacting Claudine at HRC.

·   Contact the larger hunting stores (Gander Mountain, etc) and do a demonstration with club members and their dogs.

Nunzio made the presentation of this years’ Recognition Award
to a much surprised and well deserving Charlie Whitehurst.
