Rich & Roux Slide Show

Roux reached 500 points in May of 2000, shortly after he turned three.  Two years later, I was wearing his 1000-point jacket, earned at the PV Fall Hunt.  April 30, 2005, a few days after Roux turned 8, he reached 1500 points at the Great Plains HRC test in Overton, NE, which also happened to be where Roux got his HRCH title. On May 19, 2007, Roux hit 2000 points at the Platte Valley Spring Hunt at Indian Meadows.  Thanks to all for the recognition, including a plaque for Roux and specially engraved 2000-point titanium goose bands from PVHRC, and framed pictures of that day from Kellye and Chelsae Riggs (who earned her 500 point coat that day on Ranger!). That was a fun day, particularly to share the same Finished flight and earn a jacket along with Chelsae and Ranger.  He is just a hugely talented dog and Chelsae is, a super talented trainer and excellent handler.  She is 16 years old, but she give doesn't give an inch to this handler 4 times her age, or any other handler.

Roux comes from two of the early, strong HRC breeding lines.  At the time I got him there were few Grand-to-Grand breedings and I was lucky to find the litter before it was sold out. Roux's sire is in the 1000-point club; Roux's aunt, is in the 1500-point club and his half-brother is in the 2000-point club. Three of his grandparents, both of his parents and two of his littermates have the GRHRCH title.

Roux turned 10 years old about 3 weeks before he hit 2000 points, but he still loves to hunt and train and run tests and is still pretty active.  Hopefully, he'll be able to do all of those things for some time to come, especially hunting!

I hope every HRC member has the good fortune to sometime own, train and run a special dog like Roux has been to me.  I'll be very lucky to own another dog of his ability and temperament.  I feel everyone that's been part of the HRC enterprise shares in his success.  Roux is a product of the establishment of excellent HRC breeding lines, and without all the help and encouragement I've gotten from other HRC members over the years to learn how to properly train such a fine retriever, I'd not have been able develop him into the dog he's been.  Passes with Roux have come pretty frequently, but it was really a struggle with my first HRCH, Amos, and only slightly easier with the second, HRCH Gator.  I've really enjoyed watching the success of Roux's pups from the two breedings we did.  Hopefully there will be at least one more breeding and from the next, Roux will have a sidekick to show the ways of HRC, the riverbottom, waterfowl blinds and upland fields.

Again, thanks everyone.  You all, and the HRC folks before you really made it possible. We've both enjoyed the ride!  Rich & Roux
