PHILLIP FREEMAN

HRC lost one of its best friends and a most dedicated member on October 10, 1999 when Phillip Freeman passed away suddenly. Phillip and his wonderful Lady, Carol, were Founding members of Old South Hunting Retriever Club in Georgia, which is one of the most successful HRC Clubs with over 130 members. Phillip served Old South HRC as President for a number of years and Carol serves as Secretary/Treasurer.

Phillip served as HRC/UKC Field Representative for many years and was the instrumental force in starting numerous Clubs in the Southeast. One of my many fond memories of Phillip was during the Grand Hunt in Georgia when Mark Hundley & Mark Brown tricked Phillip into thinking they had wrecked his borrowed ‘Hummer’ by running into a deer. As Grand Hunt Marshal, Phillip had really kept everyone in line and things running to an exact timetable. This was an attempt to ‘loosen him up’, but I am not sure that is what you would call the outcome of this prank!

Phillip & Carol’s black Labrador, HRCH MAGNUM OF COAL has the distinction of being one of the first dogs to be titled in all three national gun dog associations. Their yellow Labrador, HRCH BAY CREEK'S LI'L BIT OF MAC is also titled in all three associations. CALLIE, their youngest, has the Hunting Retriever title and we are sure Carol will keep Callie going.

Phillip was always one you could count on whether it was to judge, put on a Judges/Handlers Seminar or to help new members with a training tip. His dedication to HRC and Old South was second only to the love he had for his family.

Our retrievers who have earned their final retrieves are in good hands with Phillip until we can join them.

We miss you greatly, dear Friend.
