The Judges Corner Website...

Welcome friends.   This website is an archive of articles from the "Judges Corner", a column about judging hunting retrievers in licensed hunt tests written by Hunting Retriever Club, Inc. member Tim Gibson.  Tim has been writing the "Judges Corner" since 1995. His column is published in  Hunting Retriever magazine, the official publication of the Hunting Retriever Club, Inc.   The purpose of the Judges Corner, and this website, is to help judges to better understand HRC hunt test rules and to answer questions about judging scenarios and testing situations that are not covered in the HRC Rules and Guidelines for Hunting Retriever Tests, aka the HRC rulebook.

In the navigation bar above, the "Topics" link will take readers to specific judging topics Tim has written about.  The Index of Articles link will take you to a summary of the content of the Judges Corner article in each magazine by year, and then you can go from there to the article itself.

A Message from Tim Gibson...

The opinions expressed in the Judges Corner articles are for the most part mine, based on a number of years of training retrievers, running HRC hunt tests, and judging HRC licensed hunts.   As much as possible, I also try to present the consensus opinion of the most experienced members of HRC when I address a situation.  I often will ask the HRC field representatives for their take on a topic and I appreciate their valuable input on situations not covered by our rulebook.  If you have a question about what the judges at a hunt test have set up or what they are looking for when evaluating your retriever, perhaps you'll find some answers on this website.  If you've had the opportunity to run an HRC hunt test lately, make an effort to thank your judges for volunteering their time to evaluate your retriever.

If you have an interesting scenario to pass along to me, or just want to say hello, please don't hesitate to contact me.  My e-mail address can be found under the contact information on this website. Good luck and good training.

Sincerely

Tim Gibson
